Mary Kate O’Malley
Mary Kate is a lover of cheeseburgers, sodas and The Chicks. She enjoys passing time with karaoke and watching her favorite music videos on YouTube. Mary Kate is always dressed fashionably and has a slightly sarcastic sense of humor. Since coming to the art studio she has explored creating textures of intentional and repetitive marks in various mediums, drawing, painting but the most striking being her ceramic works.
After forming the clay into a slab, Mary Kate begins her creative process of gauging, marring, and carving into the material. After her initial mark making, muted layers of underglazes and stains are applied, wiped away, and reapplied. She applies surfaces in an almost meditative, cyclical process of creation and destruction.
